Do classic heroes exist in EVE? Is such heroism even possible in EVE? How would you go about being one without opening yourself wide open to scams? Is the nature of the game so dark that heroes can't exist? How do you deal with that irony? What effect does this have on us and the psyche of new players coming in from other MMOs? Is it something special that we don't have classic heroes, or should we? Are our non classic heroes more genuine?
I guess I'll level this at @kirithkodachi and hope it gets asked after the current Overview BB.

ReplyDeleteI would argue also that there are heroes within selected communities; the goons have several, carebears have Chribba, etc.
ReplyDeleteAs far as a universal hero, I'm not sure that would be possible, since not everyone has the same interests...just like life I suppose.
I think there are heroes, but just like in real life they are within their own communities. The Goons have many heroes, and part of their whole recruiting process is advertising the fact that even a noob can quickly become the "ten-hour hero".

Even humble podcasters have heroes and our own history and community!
For there to be a universal hero, there would have to be a universal ethos, and there just isn't one in EVE; it's too real for that!
Great question, though.
